By taking out Care Austria® health insurance coverage you help people in need in the Congo. We donate one percent of the total premium income from the Care Austria plan (unlimited) to the Deutsche Institut für ärztliche Mission e.V. (Difäm, German Institute for Medical Mission) in order to provide access to medical care for chronically ill people in the Congo.
Bukavu is a large city bordering Rwanda with over 700,000 inhabitants in the easternmost part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Five doctors have founded the "Association des Médecins de Famille du Congo" (AFMC) there. They make home visits to people with chronic illnesses, such as diabetes or high blood pressure. It is only with our donation that people in need in Bukavu receive access to vital medical care and medication.
In addition, Care Austria's donations are used to set up a kind of health insurance so that the chronically ill can receive treatment and the medical staff can be paid for their services and actually make a living from their job.
The Deutsche Institut für ärztliche Mission e.V. (Difäm) is a not-for-profit organization, which has been in existence for over 100 years. Its work focuses on the prevention and treatment of HIV and AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and other infectious diseases, as well as non-communicable and chronic diseases in developing countries.
